WELS Youth Involvement
WELS elementary students collect school and other supplies and make cards throughout the year for Misson to the Children participants. Each year WELS Lutheran high school and mid school students organize an annual Christmas gift program that collects and sends Christmas gifts across the border to children living in poverty. More than a thousand grateful children receive a Christmas gift with their name on it from a WELS student living in the United States.

How Mission to the Children Works
Every month Mission to the Children volunteers assess the safety conditions in Mexico before they make the trip across the border. They visit approved Mission to the Children villages and carry food coupons (never cash), which are distributed with the help of local volunteers at Bible studies conducted by the Iglesia Evangelica Luterano Confessional pastors, a visiting WELS pastor or a WELS laity volunteer. Participation in Bible studies is encouraged but never a requirement to receive Mission to the Children humanitarian aid. Recipients redeem the food coupons at local village stores which simplifies our food aid distribution program.
